GALAPAGOS

Charles Darwin

"How exciting to arrive at this handful of black islands, lost in the ocean, blocks of dark lava which end in tops of craters!"
"In Galapagos, we seem to be closer, in time and in space, to that great happening, to that mystery of mysteries, the appearance of our selves upon the earth."

Dive Sites

Academy Bay

Approximate navigation distance to Academy Bay is 2.5 miles. It is a good place for beginners, checkout dives, introduction to SCUBA, and intermediate divers. We always ask that everyone spend at least one day in Academy Bay in order to adapt to dive conditions in Galapagos. We suggest that beginning divers spend at least two days diving in Academy Bay before proceeding to more advanced sites. Academy Bay has very little current. Here are some descriptions of highlights in Academy Bay:

Estrada Point

an interestingly formed canyon where sea turtle sightings are common. Here we can also see invertebrates, tropical fish, stingrays, sea turtles, and possibly Golden rays and some white-tipped reef sharks.

Caamaño Islet

offers the unique opportunity to swim and play with friendly sea lions, many tropical fish and some marine iguanas.

Nuñel Point

a wall and cave dive. At this site you may see turtles, tropical fish and stingrays.

Solmar Shoal

This shoal, inside Academy Bay, features an impressive array of fish, white-tipped reef sharks, moray eels, invertebrates, eagle rays, stingrays, turtles and sea fans. A good site for intermediate to expert divers.

Outside of Academy Bay

Navigation distance to sites outside of Academy Bay is between 20 and 38 miles, and trip duration is about one hour. We always have three crew members when we dive outside of the Bay. These sites are spectacular and offer a high-quality dive for intermediate and advanced divers. Floreana: Enderby Islet, Ayora Point, Champion Islet and the Devil's Crown are dive sites where you may see: sea lions, exotic fish, thousands of tropical fish, barracudas, black coral, white-tipped reef sharks, Galapagos Sharks, moray eels, hammerhead sharks and eagle rays. En route to Floreana, there is a good chance to see dolphins and to snorkel with them. From the boat you can watch, and enjoy local wildlife such as sea lions, blue-footed boobys, frigate birds, penguins and marine iguanas.

Gordon Rocks

The best daily tour for advanced divers: turtles, large cold-water fish, hundreds of tropical fish, hammerhead sharks, Galapagos sharks, white-tipped reef sharks, black-tipped reef sharks, giant morays, Eagle rays, golden rays, stingrays, and fur seals.

North Seymour

Groups of hammerheads, many tropical fish, turtles, moray eels, and White-tipped reef sharks.

Cousins Rock

An intermediate-level dive site which combines an underwater shoal with a wall dive. You may see sea lions, thousands of fish, white-tipped reef sharks, hammerheads, eagle rays and manta rays. On the impressive vertical wall you'll see invertebrates and black coral.

Daphne Islet

A wall dive featuring moray eels, White-tipped reef sharks, Eagle rays, stingrays, sea lions, caves, invertebrates, hammerheads, turtles, black coral and thousands of fish.

Bartolome

Stingrays, sea turtles, white-tipped reef sharks, many fish, invertebrates, and an interesting rock formation. After the dive, we'll go snorkeling to hopefully see some of the penguins that are often found in the area.

Mosquera Islet

See a large school of garden rays, manta rays, white-tipped reef sharks, and maybe even a hammerhead or eagle ray. Many tropical fish and sea lions.

All daily tours include complete dive equipment, two open water immersions, professional diving guide in the water with the passengers (maximum 6 divers per divemaster), transfers from Puerto Ayora to the dive sites and drinking water. All dives outside of Academy Bay also include lunch. Dive site will be selected in accordance with the experience level of each passenger.

For us, the most important thing is keeping every one of our passengers safe. Therefore, we will need the following information in order to determine the experience and skill level of our passengers:

  • What sort of license: level and organization
  • How many immersions (dive history)
  • Date of last immersion
  • Experience with currents and wall dives
  • Experience in cold water and with 6mm wetsuit
  • What the passenger wants to see in Galapagos

With this information, we can co-ordinate the program of each passenger in order to assure a safe and unforgettable dive adventure.
